A prayer about Jesus

When I look again at the Savior

MY LORD AND MY SAVIOR,

As a child, I thought “Jesus” was your first name and “Christ” your last name. Now I know that Christ is the Greek form of “Messiah” or “anointed one,” the Person for whom the Jews had longed through the centuries. And the name Jesus means “One Who Saves.” John’s Gospel reveals that you are Creator—the Lord of the universe, of the earth, of your people, and of me. But more than being the Ruler, you are the Savior. You became a living, breathing human being—one of us, with the distinct purpose of saving your people from their sins. I am one of those people, Jesus—not by birth, nationality, or any work or achievement of my own—but completely by your grace. When I was totally dead and lost in my sins, you gave me life—eternal life—forgave me, and saved me. After living a perfect life on earth, you became sin and paid the penalty, dying in my place. But you rose from the dead, defeating death and sin. Thank you, my Lord and my Savior, Jesus Christ.

[Mary] will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. Matthew 1:21
